1920's/1940's

The period marked a spread of ready-to-wear fashion. Here the status symbol of fashion started losing its importance and class distinctions became blurred. Women had phases, long skirts and then the flapper age, which was characterised by shorter skirts. Cosmetics also started to reign as one of women’s best friends. Men wore trousers widened to as much as 24 inches at the bottom. Slouch hats were made of felt, raccoon coats for winter and the perfect accessory was a 12 inch long cigarette holder.
